NYTD is a federal reporting system designed to collect information on young people transitioning out of foster care who are served by state agencies that administer the John H. Chafee Foster Care Program for Successful Transition to Adulthood.

The purpose of the NYTD Review is to comprehensively evaluate states’ policies and practices related to collecting and reporting timely, reliable, and accurate data on young people in transition. The NYTD Review also is an opportunity to explore how states use NYTD data to evaluate the quality of services provided to youth in transition as part of a continuous quality improvement (CQI) framework.

NYTD is an opportunity to engage young people as partners in data collection, analysis, dissemination, and the use of data. Recognizing the integral role of young adults in successfully designing services and implementing a survey for young people, the Children’s Bureau engages young adults to guide the work through two opportunities: The Federal NYTD Reviewer Opportunity and the State Youth Ambassador Opportunity.
